World Championships in Varese


Bitte ändern 27 September, 2008 – Today, the women’s road race took place at the UCI Road World Championships in Varese (ITA) over a challenging 138,8 km course. It was a very attractive race where the women’s expressed their top-class.

Early in the competition a group with 12 athletes escaped after an attack of Kristin Armstrong from the Cervélo-Lifeforce Pro Cycling Team. These group led the race until the last round. The World Champion title went to the Olympic Champion Nicole Cooke (GBR), who won the sprint of the small leading group with three athletes. The second spot took Marianne Vos (NED) while Judith Arndt won her second bronze medal after the third place on Wednesday in the time trial.

Christiane Soeder (AUT) from the Cervélo-Lifeforce Pro Cycling Team finished on 19th place, 1,47min behind the winner. Kristin Armstrong took the 39th place, Carla Ryan (AUS) finished 64th and Patricia Schwager (SUI) reached the 66th position.
